Fans of the popular 1971 film, “Wonka and the Chocolate Factory,” have been eagerly awaiting news of a new adaptation ever since Gene Wilder passed away in 2015. After years of speculation, it was finally announced in February 2019 that “Wonka 2023” will be produced by Warner Bros. Pictures and distributed by Universal Pictures.

Since there are so many references to Wonka’s factory scattered throughout the original novel, it was difficult for producers to narrow down which locations would be used for filming. However, they eventually settled on the following five:

-The exterior set of Roald Dahl’s home, which is located in Buckinghamshire, England;
-The interior set of Wonka’s chocolate factory at London’s Shepperton Studios;
-The Golden Tickets attraction at Disneyland Paris;
-The Blue Bucket restaurant in Copenhagen; and
-The Willy Wonka satellite office building located in downtown Los Angeles.

In the heart of Wonka’s factory, deep within the bowels of Charlie’s chocolate factory, a team of dedicated workers is hard at work dreaming up new ways to tantalize and delight chocoholics all over the world. Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at what went on during the making of “Wonka 2023.”

This year, in celebration of the 50th anniversary of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, Warner Bros. Pictures released a special edition DVD and Blu-Ray release that added never before seen footage from behind the scenes. The film crew captured various moments in which Oompa Loompas rehearsed their dance routines, actors recorded their dialogue sessions, and production staff perfected the sets. One such scene features director Mel Stuart discussing how he put together one particular scene in which Gene Wilder (Willy Wonka) interacts with his creatures.

“One obvious challenge was getting these large Oompa Loompas into position,” said Stuart. “We used a hydraulic lift to get them into position so they would line up perfectly with Gene Wilder’s movements.”

The behind-the-scenes footage offers a unique glimpse into how movies are made and provides fans. With an exciting opportunity to see how far technology has come since 1971 when “Wonka 2023” was first released.
