David earned a business degree from South Texas College of Law in 2012 and became a state attorney two years later. Since 2014, he has served as a prosecutor for the 5th Judicial Circuit.

David Deweese joins SPC
David Deweese, a combat veteran and SPC, has joined the SPC as a public affairs specialist. Deweese is originally from Missouri and served in the Army for thirteen years. He is currently stationed at Fort Hood, Texas.
Deweese’s military career began when he enlisted in the Army in 2000. He was deployed twice to Iraq and his experiences there shaped his outlook on life. During his first deployment, he served as a member of the Iraqi Civil Defense Corps, which was responsible for protecting the civilian population from insurgent attacks. His second deployment was to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Deweese’s work included providing security for convoys and other military assets.
After completing his military service, Deweese enrolled in college and earned a degree in business administration from Rockhurst University. He started working as a financial analyst for a financial services company before joining SPC as SPC’s public affairs specialist. In this role, he will provide public relations support to SPC members worldwide.

SPC David Deweese assumed command of the 1st Battalion, 153rd Infantry Regiment, 32nd Infantry Division on 1 October 2017.
Deweese has a history of leading infantry units. Prior to his assignment with the 153rd Infantry Regiment, Deweese served as deputy commander of the 1st Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team (ABCT), Fort Bragg, North Carolina. During his time with the 503rd Infantry Regiment, Deweese led units in several combat deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Deweese is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, where he was a member of the Class of 2006. After graduating from West Point, Deweese completed infantry officer training and then served six years in the Georgia Army National Guard.
The Great Depression and the rise of the SPC
The Great Depression ravaged the United States in the 1930s, affecting every sector of society. One group that felt the brunt of the economic downturn was police officers. The number of law enforcement officers decreased by almost 30% from 1931 to 1933 due to hard times. This decline in officer numbers was partly due to high unemployment, reduced government spending and increased crime rates.
But despite these challenges, some brave law enforcement officials have risen to the occasion and guided their departments through these challenging times. One such individual was SPC David Deweese. Deweese began his career with the Los Angeles Police Department in 1932 and quickly made a name for himself. In 1935, he was transferred to San Francisco, where he became an integral part of the department’s detective bureau.
Deweese was known for his tireless work ethic and dedication to public safety. He also had a knack for solving complex cases, which helped him gain the respect of his colleagues and superiors. In 1938, Deweese was promoted to sergeant and later appointed Acting Chief of the Detective Bureau.

World War II and the demise of the SPC
The United States Army Special Forces (SFC), or “Green Berets” as they are affectionately known, have a long and storied history dating back to World War II. The forerunner of the Special Forces units, the Scouts and Raiders, was formed in 1942. However, SPC David Deweese is particularly noted for his actions during the Second World War.
David Deweese enlisted in the army in 1943 at the age of 18. He had received his draft notice only a few months earlier and was eager to serve his country. When he first reported for duty, he was assigned to B Company, 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division. Only after Pearl Harbor was he mobilized and sent to Europe with his unit.
Deweese first saw combat in Italy in 1944, taking part in Operation Shingle, an amphibious landing on the Italian mainland near Venice. After landing on the bridgehead, Deweese’s unit quickly advanced inland and captured several key objectives before being forced to withdraw due to overwhelming enemy forces.

Postwar America and the Rise of the SPC
SPC David Deweese was born and raised in post-war America. In 1964, he enlisted in the United States Army, serving as a member of the Special Forces. After completing his military service, he continued to serve his country by working for more than 30 years as a federal agent. Dewees’ dedication to his country and his exceptional skills as a federal agent led to his nomination to SPC, which he received in 2011.
David Deweese was born in 1944 and grew up in the post-war years, a time of great change and uncertainty. The Korean War had ended just a few years earlier, and America was still rebuilding its destroyed infrastructure.
