Aquatic programs for adults and youth at the Aurora Wellness Centre

The Aurora Wellness Centre is pleased to offer a complete aquatic training program that addresses the needs of swimmers of all ages and levels, from beginner to advanced. As always, the Aurora Wellness Centre aquatics department follows the American Red Cross format for our Learn-to-Swim youth programs. Our instructors have current certifications in water safety instruction, CPR/AED for the professional rescuer, and standard first aid. Our goal is to provide you with an energetic, highly motivating, and safe environment in which your child can learn to swim.

Water Safety Instructor Training

No refunds or make-up classes will be offered. Credit will be issued on a prorated basis only if participation is discontinued for medical reasons. A doctor’s note must be provided to the service desk within one week of discontinuing the program.

Participants must bring their own towels.

Swim club and swim lesson participants must use the boys’ and girls’ competitive locker rooms. Padlocks are available at the service desk or you can use your own. Permanent locks are not allowed.

Participants must shower before entering the pool.

Please note that the area outside the changing rooms is a waiting area for rehab patients. We appreciate your courtesy to our patients.

Parents and children are only allowed in the aquatic area of ​​the facility. All parents must observe lifeguard class or swim club on the pool observation deck located on the main level. Street shoes are not allowed on the pool deck.

Frequent questions

What happens if I cannot attend any of the registration days?

Entries by phone or fax will not be accepted. Registrations are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis by submitting a completed registration form along with payment on the day of registration or any day thereafter. A friend or family member can bring the completed registration form along with payment on registration day at 9 am. to 1 p.m. and from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Is there babysitting available for non-members of the establishment during the lessons?

Kids Korner is available to non-members of the Wellness Centre. Children from 6 months to 12 years old can attend. The cost is $2.50 per hour per child. Learn about Kids Korner during registration.

What happens if my child misses a class?

What should my child bring to his lesson?

Parents and children must bring their own towels. Children who are not toilet trained should wear a swim diaper or a cloth diaper with plastic pants. Regular disposable diapers are not allowed. Bows for kids with long hair will help them swim without the distraction of hair in their faces.

Why is my child asked to shower before entering the pool?

Aurora Wellness Centre policy states that attendees must shower before entering the pool. This policy is in place for the health and safety of the more than 200 people who use the pool every day.

Where does my child change for lessons?

Swim program participants must use the boys’ and girls’ competitive locker rooms, or the family locker room. Please note that the area outside the changing rooms is a waiting room for rehab patients. We appreciate your silence and courtesy with our patients in this area. Children are not allowed in member locker rooms.

What can I do to help my child progress at a faster rate?

A child will not advance to the next level until they have successfully demonstrated the skills required at their current level. Remember that, even if your child has not passed to the next level, the instructors will individualize it within each class, to maintain the level of demand for all children. What can you do as a parent? Don’t compare children. Each child will progress at the right rate for him. He is always understanding and encouraging. Your child can practice his skills at home, blowing bubbles during bath time or using the “float arms” while watching TV. Ask your instructor for additional skills that you can work on at home.

Can I watch my child’s lesson?

Parents are invited to stay and watch their child’s lesson. All parents must observe classes in the observation area of ​​the pool, located on the upper level. Parents and children are only allowed in the aquatic area of ​​the facility.
