Running out of ideas for stunts on your stunt scooter? Maybe you’ve heard how to do a trick or seen a friend perform it, but aren’t sure how exactly to replicate it on your stunt scooter. The following list lists a number of stunt scooter tricks and the steps you need to take to perform them.

 

Whether it’s done on a U-ramp, ramp, rail or bowl, scooter tricks look great when photographed at the skatepark and capture the stunts where they’re meant to be. It’s a shame that not all skatepark owners allow stunt scooters, but luckily some do.

 

10 basic tricks of professional scooters

Be careful the first time you try each stunt and always wear safety gear when riding your stunt scooter:

 

Barspin

  1. Get a steady speed.

 

  1. Keep your feet slightly behind the center of the stunt scooter.

 

  1. Do a little bunny hop.

 

  1. While in the air, turn the stick 90 degrees.

 

  1. When it is 90 degrees, turn the bar and catch it before landing again.

 

  1. Board, land and drive away.

 

Indian Air

  1. Do a bunny hop.

 

  1. Take your feet off the deck, put your back foot forward and your front foot back.

 

  1. Place your feet back on the stunt scooter deck.

 

  1. Land and depart.

 

Instructions for the nose

  1. Get a decent speed that you are comfortable with.

 

  1. Take the back leg and push lightly on the frame.

 

  1. Lean firmly on the handle and then apply a lot of pressure.

 

  1. Be careful not to lean too far or you will land face first.

 

  1. Lean over and roll away.

 

Pogo

  1. Put your back foot on the brake.

 

  1. Pull the handles up.

 

  1. Start jumping without landing.

 

  1. Lean forward and regain your balance.

Rewind

  1. Make a tail whip.

 

  1. In front of you, Land will perform a rear whip with his tail (tail whip in the opposite direction).

 

  1. Push the deck with your feet, as opposed to a normal Tail-whip.

 

  1. Land and depart.

 

Stall tricks

  1. Bunny jump onto the curb or platform

 

  1. Get your balance back.

 

  1. Lift the wheel and then turn it 180 degrees.

 

  1. Scrolling.

 

Switchfoot Pogo

  1. Put your back foot on the brake

 

  1. Pull the handles up

 

  1. Start jumping without landing

 

  1. Switch the feet

 

  1. Start jumping again without landing

 

  1. Reverse transition

 

  1. Land

 

Spinning wheels

  1. Put your foot on the brake.

 

  1. Go to the tire.

 

  1. Turn as many times as possible.

 

  1. Land cleanly and roll away.

Wheelie

  1. Build some speed.

 

  1. Pull the handles up.

 

  1. Get your balance.

 

  1. Remove one leg from the stunt scooter.

 

  1. Land cleanly and roll away.

 

Wheelie pop

  1. Make a circle.

 

  1. Pull the handlebars firmly to lean your scooter back.

 

  1. Place your feet on the ground.

 

A-Z scooter stunts

You may have heard a number of stunt scooter tricks thrown around the skatepark without knowing what each one means or how to perform them. Here’s a glossary of over 100 popular and extreme scooter tricks with video links of riders doing them when available:

 

Anti-flip – A type of flip where the scooter turns, not the rider

 

Around the World – a stunt where the rider takes the scooter around the back of their body

Backflip condor/no-hander – the backflip is performed with arms extended out to both sides

 

Backflip handclap – when the stunt rider claps during a backflip

Barrel roll – sideways rotation

 

Barttwist – bar rotation where one hand is kept on the bar throughout the rotation

Bump Shift – Use momentum to transfer your weight to the bottom and slide down the gradient

 

Taxi driver – a twist, makes a truck driver a total fakie

 

Cali slider – repositioning of the feet during the slide

 

Casper – Drop and re-grab the stunt scooter using your legs to lift it up

 

Chair – where you sit on the bars of the scooter with your legs hanging over the wheels

 

Cross leg – jump with the opposite leg in front of the other

 

Decade – where the rider manages to spin their whole body around the deck and hold on to the bars

 

Dragon whip – a tail whip where rotation is done with both hands holding the steertube

 

Double Pole Spin – where the pole spins twice before landing

 

Double tail whip – two consecutive tail whips

 

Egg plant – the rider uses the ramp to turn around and go back in the opposite direction

 

Fakie – riding a scooter upside down

 

Fakie manual – making a manual in reverse

 

Fakbie Scooter Brake Hold – Reach and grab the stunt scooter brake while reversing

 

Fakie slider – riding backwards while sliding on the front wheel

 

Fast plant – using bilges to get air

 

Weak grinding – grinding with the rear wheel only

 

Finger flip – extreme turning of the scooter with one hand

 

Finger-whip – whipping the deck with one hand

 

Flying Squirrel – the name for a trick with no arms or legs on a scooter

 

Flip-driver – a combination between a backflip and a barspin

 

Foot Stuck – Using the front foot on the front wheel for balance

 

Foot jam tail whip – doing a tail whip on one leg of the front wheel

 

Foot plant – a jump using one foot on the ground for momentum

 

Forward bri flip – forward bri flip

 

Frontflip – the whole body and the scooter turn vertically 360 degrees

 

Front Jam – 180 degree spin with your foot on the front wheel

 

Front flip of the scooter – when one hand is removed from the bar as far as possible and the whole scooter turns forward and back under the feet

 

Fufanu – Landing on something with the center of the deck and then bouncing off again

 

Full cab – 360 degree rearward rotation

 

Full whip – tail whip and barspin performed simultaneously in the same direction

 

Grizzly – lifting the back leg high while the other leg remains on the board in the air

 

Hand clap – taking your hands off the pole and clapping

 

Handplant – using your hand to grip a surface while holding the scooter in your other hand

 

Hang 5 – riding a scooter with only the front wheel

 

Heel clicker – touching your heels while holding both hands on the bar in the air

 

Heelflip – Touching the scooter bar to the ground

 

Heel whip – kicking the deck forward instead of back and turning the deck clockwise to perform a tail whip

 

Hextuple Whip – 6 tail whips in one jump

 

Ice Pick – crushing using the rear wheel

 

Indy – an aerial trick where the rider grabs the deck of a stunt scooter in the air

 

Invert – an aerial trick in which the rider curls into a ball to change direction in the air, with the aim of replacing the pole position with the shoulders

 

Japan – a catch trick similar to the skateboard trick of the same name

 

Krippleflip – flipping the scooter backwards with both hands between the rider’s legs

 

Legsweep – a trick that was performed in the air by dragging a leg over the handlebars

 

Lip side – sanding using the scooter deck on the edge of the tube

 

Spectacular ride – a fakie on a scooter with both feet on board

 

Manual – driving only on the rear wheel while maintaining balance

 

McWhip – a variation on the tailwhip with the rider spinning the back of the scooter in the air

 

Mer grab – tuck no hander, where the rider grabs under the folding mechanism

 

Method – an aerial trick where the rider grabs the deck

 

Misty flip – turn 180 degrees during a backflip

 

Mute – a grab trick with the back leg extended around the back

 

Nifty – half turn with front wheel grip

 

Don’t follow – use your grounded foot to suck in air and spin

 

No footer – an aerial trick where only the hands are on the scooter

 

Grabbing the nose – grabbing the spine of the scooter in the air

 

No hander – a trick performed without hands on a scooter.

 

No hand manual – pinching bars turned left or right between the knees

 

Nose pick – stand on the front wheel of the scooter

 

Nos manual – driving only on the front wheel while maintaining balance

 

Nothing – a combination of no hander and no footer

 

One foot invert – an inversion performed with only one foot

 

One foot manual – balance on one wheel of the scooter with only one foot

 

One hander – removing one hand from the scooter and putting it back on before landing

 

Penta Whip – Five-fold tail whip

 

Spin – Using the back wheel of the scooter as a pivot to turn 180 degrees

 

Pogo – Using the scooter as a pogo stick to make as many jumps as possible

 

Pogo spin – spinning while performing pogo jumps

 

Pole grab – removing both hands from the handlebars and grabbing the steering tube

 

Powerslide – using momentum to slide and change direction with both feet on board

 

Quadruple tail-whip – four consecutive tail whips

 

Fivefold Tail Whip – Five consecutive tail whips

 

Rewind – tail whip followed by another tailwhip in the opposite direction

 

Rodeo flip – a 360-degree turn during a backflip

 

Rodeo grind – grinding with one hand and one leg

 

Rotor whip – tailwhip and barpin in the opposite direction

 

Samurai flip – competition name for bri flip

 

Scooter fakie – when the scooter is in fakie position and is going in such a way that you are going forward and the scooter is going in the opposite direction of where it is going

 

Scooter Fake Brake Hold – Perform a scooter fake while holding the scooter brake

Scooter fakie – when the scooter is in fakie position and is going in such a way that you are going forward and the scooter is going in the opposite direction of where it is going

 

Scooter Fake Brake Hold – Perform a scooter fake while holding the scooter brake

 

Flipping the scooter – when the farthest hand is removed from the bar and the entire scooter is turned backwards and back under the feet

 

Seven – a 720 degree turn

 

Shifty manual powerslide – powerslide on the rear wheel

 

Show whip – tail whip without kicking the deck to turn it

 

Show rewind – rewinding without kicking the package and turning it around

 

Smith grind – grinding when the back wheel is on the surface you are grinding with the front wheel overhanging

 

Slider – a stylish move to get off the bike without leaving the ground

 

Spine transfer – goes over the back of the two pipes

 

Stalefish – a grab similar to the skateboard trick of the same name

 

Stair Jump – Jump over a certain number of stairs

 

Suicide no hander – a trick performed so that nothing touches the scooter

 

Superman – both arms and legs extended like Superman in the air

 

Superman Deck Grab – Extend both arms and legs and grab the scooter deck in front of you

 

Superman Grab Tires – Do superman and grab the wheel when it’s in front of you

 

Tailwhip – spinning the scooter in the air

 

Ten – turn 1080 degrees

 

Three – a 360 degree turn

Two man whip – a tailwhip performed with a second person rotating the deck

 

Twizzler – combination of Benihana and bar twist

 

Tye grab – grabbing the wheel of a stunt scooter in the air

 

Umbrella flip – flipping the scooter over your head like an umbrella in the air before landing

 

Wall Plant – Land and bounce on the wall

 

Wallride – using momentum to ride along a wall

 

Whip cab – 180° tail whip made of facia

 

X ride – hands crossed like an X on the handlebars

 

X Up – Cross your arms in an X shape while holding on to the bar
